MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR) has opened the gates of Wadi Dayqah Dam in the Wilayat of Qurayat, Muscat Governorate, to release around 15 million cubic metres of stored water from July 5 to 16.

The controlled release aims to replenish the groundwater reservoir that supports farms in the Daghamar and Hail Al Ghaf areas, strengthening water supplies for agricultural activities and sustaining local farming communities.

Standing 75 metres high, Wadi Dayqah Dam is among Oman’s largest and most significant water infrastructure projects, with a storage capacity of 100 million cubic metres.

The MoAFWR has urged residents and visitors to avoid the wadi channels and adhere to safety guidelines throughout the drainage period.

The spectacular flow of water from the dam has attracted widespread attention on social media, with visitors and photographers capturing the scenic views of water cascading through the mountains and palm groves.

Content creator Abdulaziz described the release as a 'summer water surprise'” for the people of Qurayat, offering visitors a unique experience while stressing the importance of safety precautions.

Chemical engineer Ahmed al Hadabi shared footage of the water flowing through Al Mazraah village, highlighting the breathtaking landscape and the natural beauty surrounding Wadi Dayqah Dam.

The dam’s seasonal water release has turned the area into a popular attraction for nature enthusiasts and photographers, showcasing Oman’s remarkable landscapes and the vital role of water resources in supporting agriculture and ecosystems.
